
Executive and Artistic Director, Carnegie Hall, New York
Clive Gillinson studied at London University, starting
with Maths but switching to Music after becoming involved
in the musical life of the university. He then studied
cello at the Royal Academy of Music for four years
with Douglas Cameron, being awarded the Recital Diploma,
and the May Mukle Prize.
In 1970 he joined the London Symphony Orchestra in
the cello section. He served for 3 years on the Board
of Directors between 1976-79. In 1983 Gillinson was
again elected to the Board of Directors, and in 1984
was asked to be Acting Managing Director, becoming
Managing Director later in the same year. In August
2004 Gillinson was offered the post of Executive and
Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall in New York, which
he takes up in July 2005.
Gillinson is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and
of the Royal Northern College of Music, as well as being
a Freeman of the City of London. He has received an Honorary
Doctorate from City University; the ABSA Garrett Award
for outstanding achievement in encouraging business sponsorship
of the Arts; and the Making Music Sir Charles Grove Prize
for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. He was
awarded a CBE in the 1999 New Year Honours List . |
