
Artist
Jeff Koons’s work has been exhibited
internationally and is in numerous public collections,
including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum
of American Art, Guggenheim Museum, The National Gallery
Washington and Tate Gallery. He received a BFA from
the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore
in 1976 band also attended the School of Art Institute
of Chicago on a visiting student program. He has lectured
at a number of universities and institutions, including
Harvard, Yale, Columbia, New York University and the
Royal Academy of Arts. He is well known for his public
sculptures, such as Puppy, a floral sculpture shown
at Rockefeller Centre (2000), Balloon Flower, installed
in Potsdamer Platz in Berlin as part of Daimler Chrysler’s
permanent collection, and Split-Rocker, a floral sculpture
exhibited at the Papal Palace in Avignon, France. In
1999, Mr. Koons was awarded “Art Start for Children
Award”, by The Guggenheim Museum Children’s
Program/Learning Through Art. For his cultural contribution.
He received the BZ Cultural Award 2000 from the city
of Berlin. In 2001, President Jacques Chirac appointed
Mr. Koons to the rank of Chevalier of the French Legion
of Honor for his ongoing contributions in tightening
the cultural links between France and the United States.
In 2002, Mr. Koons received the Skowhegan Medal for
Sculpture, a Doctorate of Fine Arts, Honoris Causa,
from the Corcoran in Washington, DC, the Global Vision
Award from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited
Children and was awarded membership to the Signet Society
for Arts and Letters at Harvard University. Mr. Koons
has also received the Medal Award of the School of
the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and has recently been
elected to the American Academy for arts and Letters. |
