Abstract: From Kandinsky To The Present Days with Tatyana Cohen

This lecture emphasizes that Abstract art is the basis of painting freely and uses the language of form, colour and line to create its compositions.
The Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), who later lived in Germany and France, is one of the pioneers of 20th-century art. Nowadays he is regarded as the founder of abstract art and is, moreover, the chief theoretician of this type of painting. His art then freed itself more and more from the object, eventually culminating in the "First Abstract Watercolour" of 1910. Kandinsky was the first to realize this and thus to influence a whole range of artists.
Into the 21st century abstraction remains very much in view, its main themes are: the transcendental, the contemplative and the timeless are exemplified by Barnet Newman, Frank Stella, Joan Mitchel and many others.

About Tatyana Cohen
Cohen was born in St. Petersburg and has established herself as a leading expert on contemporary Russian art. In 1990 she achieved a ‘Bachelor of Commerce’ from the Moscow Commercial Institute and furthered her studies in Belgium and New York with advanced qualifications in Art Marketing and History of Art.
Tatyana established Tatyana International Art Inc. in Houston, USA and recently expanded her successful dealership by opening Tatyana Art Ltd. in London, UK. Her galleries represent some of the most famous contemporary Russian artists in the world. In addition to her successful galleries, Tatyana is much in demand as a lecturer and authority on Russian art. She has written numerous articles on the subject and recently supplied the main feature on contemporary Russian art for the Russian Art Fair catalogue.
